According to CDC, in 2021, Black/African American individuals aged 13 and older represented approximately 12% of the U.S. population, but accounted for 40% of people with HIV. Hispanic/Latino persons aged 13 and older represented 18% of the population but accounted for 25% of people with HIV.

of all LGBTQ+ youth of color experienced discrimination based on their race/ethnicity in the past year, along with higher rates of suicide attempts compared to white LGBTQ+ youth.

LGBTQ youth of color, especially Black and Indigenous LGBTQ youth, often face additional discrimination due to their intersectional identities, and media visibility is lacking compared to coverage of their white LGBTQ peers, a 2021 Trevor Project survey found.
